Interview: John Lennon for Playboy

David Sheff continued his interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono for Playboy on 25 September 1980.

The interview took place at the Hit Factory recording studio in New York City, where Lennon was putting the finishing touches to the Double Fantasy album. Following a vocal overdub, Lennon continued discussing The Beatles song-by-song with Sheff.

He sang the vocals on ‘Woman’ and background vocals to ‘Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him’. He sang with his eyes closed to the world’s distractions. He swayed and flowed with the music, patiently singing and resinging his parts. When he finished, I joined him in Yoko’s room to continue his reflections on the songs.

The extended interview also took place on 11, 12, 15, 17, 24, and 28 September 1980.
