David Sheff continued his interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono for Playboy on 24 September 1980.
The interview took place at the Dakota Building in New York City. On this day Sheff was accompanied by his editor Barry Golson and photographer Tom Zuk.
Golson took Lennon to task for giving a spoiler interview to Newsweek, and suggested a peace offering in which Lennon discussed his Beatles memories song-by-song. To Golson’s surprise, Lennon readily agreed.
Are you kidding? Instead of talking about Beatles reunions and all that rubbish? I’m proud of my work. I’ll give you the definitive version, the whole damned thing – at least my version. On this sort of thing, I have a terrific memory. You can do it from the womb to the grave. Boom!
