Photo session in London

In the morning of 5 March 1963, prior to recording their third single From Me To You, The Beatles took part in a photography session in London.

Live: Plaza Ballroom, St Helens

This was The Beatles’ fifth and final appearance at the Plaza Ballroom in St Helens, Lancashire. They had first performed there on 25 June 1962.

Television: ABC At Large

Following their performance in Sheffield as part of the Helen Shapiro tour, The Beatles travelled to Didsbury Studio Centre in Manchester for a live appearance on ABC TV’s show ABC At Large.

Live: City Hall, Sheffield

This was The Beatles’ first appearance at Sheffield’s City Hall, as part of their UK tour with Helen Shapiro. They performed at the venue on five occasions in total: four in 1963 and once in 1964.

Live: Granada Cinema, Shrewsbury

While travelling with the rest of their tour companions from York to Shrewsbury on this day, John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote their third single From Me To You.

Live: Rialto Theatre, York

The headliner of The Beatles’ first UK tour, Helen Shapiro, was ill for a second consecutive day, and so didn’t perform on this day.

Live: Gaumont Cinema, Taunton

This was part of The Beatles’ tour of the United Kingdom with headliner Helen Shapiro. The group had temporarily dropped out after 9 February 1963, to record the Please Please Me LP and play a number of standalone shows.

Live: Casino Ballroom, Leigh

This booking was arranged by Brian Epstein‘s NEMS Enterprises. It was The Beatles’ only performance in the Lancashire town of Leigh. The Casino later became a nightclub, and was finally demolished in 2007.

Live: Coventry Theatre, Coventry

This was The Beatles’ second live appearance in the city of Coventry in Warwickshire; their first had taken place at the Matrix Hall on 17 November 1962.

Live: Granada Cinema, Mansfield

The Beatles had toured with Helen Shapiro in the early part of February 1963, but had temporarily dropped out to record the Please Please Me LP and undertake a series of standalone concerts. On this date, however, they rejoined the tour.

Live: Majestic Ballroom, Birkenhead

This was the penultimate of The Beatles’ 17 appearances at the Majestic Ballroom, which stood on Conway Street in Birkenhead, Cheshire.

Live: St James Swimming Baths, Doncaster

The was The Beatles’ only live show at this Victorian era venue, normally used as a Turkish baths and swimming pool, although they performed in Doncaster, Yorkshire, on four other occasions.

Radio: Parade Of The Pops

Following the previous night’s concert at the Cavern Club, The Beatles drove down to London for a brief appearance on the BBC radio show Parade Of The Pops.

Studio One, EMI Studios, Abbey Road Producer: George Martin Engineer: Stuart Eltham The Beatles did not attend this overdub session for the Please Please Me album, as they were in London for a live radio session before travelling to Doncaster, Yorkshire, for an evening concert.

Live: Cavern Club, Liverpool (evening)

By February 1963 appearances by The Beatles at Liverpool’s Cavern Club certainly weren’t unusual. However, by this time their fame had grown considerably, and demand to see them was high.
