Paul McCartney live: Candlestick Park, San Francisco

The 50th concert of Paul McCartney’s Out There tour took place at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, USA.

The historic show was the final scheduled event at the Bayview Heights stadium. Plans for the 54-year-old venue to be rebuilt were abandoned after the San Francisco 49ers announced a move to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The Stick will be demolished to make way for a housing, retail and entertainment complex.

Candlestick Park was also where The Beatles played their final scheduled concert 48 years before, on 29 August 1966. On that night the group closed their set with ‘Long Tall Sally’, which McCartney also performed at the final Candlestick Park show.

McCartney also performed ‘San Francisco Bay Blues’, the American folk song he previously released on his 1991 album Unplugged (The Official Bootleg).

McCartney’s band was Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens (vocals, keyboards, guitar, percussion, harmonica), Brian Ray (vocals, guitar, bass), Rusty Anderson (vocals, guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (vocals, drums).
