The Beatles’ Anthology 3 album went on sale worldwide on 28 October 1996, seven months after its predecessor Anthology 2.
The original release date of 7 October was delayed by EMI, although the VHS box set of the Anthology television series did appear on that day. Anthology 3 was rescheduled to 21 October, before being pushed back a further week.
Anthology 3 entered the US Billboard 200 chart at number one, becoming The Beatles’ 18th chart-topping album and their third consecutive number one within a year.
The album also went top ten in Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Anthology 3 was certified triple platinum by the RIAA and was The Beatles’ third consecutive double album release to reach number one in the US charts.
All three Anthology albums were remastered and made available as digital downloads on the iTunes Store from 14 June 2011.
