Recording: Jet, Bluebird by Wings

Studio One, AIR Studios, London
Producer: Paul McCartney
Engineer: Geoff Emerick

Wings’ first recording session following their trip to Lagos took place on 3 October 1973.

The first task of the day was to copy the multitrack tapes of the recordings made so far. ‘Mamunia’, ‘Band On The Run’, ‘Mrs Vandebilt’, ‘No Words’, and ‘Let Me Roll It’ were all transferred onto 16-track tape. The only other song from the Lagos sessions, ‘Picasso’s Last Words (Drink To Me)’, had already been taped on 16-track at Ginger Baker’s studio.

Wings then set about recording a new song, ‘Jet’. A master take proved elusive, however, and the song was set aside for another day.

They then began work on ‘Bluebird’, completing the backing track before the end of the session. More overdubs were added at a later date.
