George Harrison live: Boston Garden, Boston

The 23rd date of George Harrison and Ravi Shankar’s 1974 North American tour took place at the Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, on 10 December 1974.

There were two shows on this date, in the afternoon and evening. The Beatles had performed at the Boston Garden on 12 September 1964.

Ravi Shankar did not play at this show due to illness.

Harrison’s 30-date tour was to promote his Dark Horse album and Dark Horse Records label, and took in 45 concerts in 26 cities. It was the first North American tour by a former Beatle, and Harrison’s first live performance since the Concert for Bangladesh in August 1971.

His first of two shows at the Boston Garden triumphed over dismal reports filtering ahead of his tour. What the crowd saw was a show where the featured attraction was sometimes the star, but most times just a guitarist in the band. But the essence of the night was summed up in his R&B styled ‘My Sweet Lord’, where he urged the crowd to chant ‘Christ, Krishna, Allah, Buddha’. This gesture suddenly interrupted the crowd’s ecstasy.
