Recording: Don’t Let Me Wait Too Long by George Harrison

Apple Studios, London
Producer: George Harrison
Engineer: Phil McDonald

George Harrison recorded ‘Don’t Let Me Wait Too Long’, for his fourth solo album Living In The Material World, on 11 October 1972.

The basic track had Klaus Voormann’s bass guitar on track one. Jim Keltner and Ringo Starr’s bass drums were recorded onto track two, with the rest of their kits on three and four respectively. Badfinger’s Pete Ham, Tom Evans, and Joey Molland played acoustic guitars on tracks five and six, and Gary Wright’s piano was on seven. Harrison’s acoustic guitar was on track 8, his lead vocals were on 10, and Nicky Hopkins’ harpsichord was on track nine.

The arrangement took several takes to finalise. Forty-nine were recorded, although the majority were incomplete. A jam around The Four Tops’ song ‘I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)’ was also recorded.

Take 49 of ‘Don’t Let Me Wait Too Long’ was considered the best, and became the master take on the album.
