John Lennon’s single ‘Imagine’ was released in the USA on 11 October 1971.
The b-side was ‘It’s So Hard’. Both songs had previously been released on the Imagine album.
The single peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also Lennon’s only solo number one in Australia, where it spent five weeks at the top.
[‘Imagine’] is anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic… but because it is sugar-coated, it is accepted.
