George Harrison recorded ‘The Light That Has Lighted The World’, for his fourth solo album Living In The Material World, on 6 October 1972.
The song had first been tackled on 3 October, with 34 takes recorded before the song was set aside.
The basic track had Klaus Voormann’s bass guitar on track one, and Jim Keltner’s drums on two and three. Acoustic guitars were on five and six, and Nicky Hopkins’s piano was recorded on seven and eight. Harrison’s lead vocals were on track 10, and Gary Wright’s electric piano was on 11. Ringo Starr attended the session, and played maracas on take 4.
The musicians took a number of takes to settle on an arrangement. Take 33 was complete and marked ‘good’ on the tape box, but the next and final take became the album master.
