parlance, would it be easier to just copy&paste the source code and post an entire 20-post page as a single post? Or is keeping the precise number of posts a priority? (Or any other drawbacks to that method?)

Offline 500 is up so well over half way.
It’s 4 minutes to 2 in the morning here in the UK so its time for bed. I’ll pick up from where it gets to in the morning.
@Mr. Kite, if you want to do a bit up to page 25 is done. Here is the cached page 26.
Don’t work too long or too late into the night folks, take breaks and get sleep. We are way ahead of where i thought we would be and it will be done by tomorrow/tonight/Sunday evening.
Once again i have to thank you all for your help. It would have been impossible to get 20 posts done without everyone’s help never mind be sitting on 500. Its quite an achievement. Posting these back in does bring it home how right doing this is, its snapshots of people’s lifes, people who at one time gave a lot on here. Hopefully nothing like this happens again but if it does (when i’m not here, not a mod and not responsible for the disaster) i hope the users pull together in such a way again.
It is fun to think of a user coming onto the forum and seeing a notice saying 820 unread posts to read in one thread. Joe will be slightly bamboozled. Its also weird seeing people’s old avatars and sad to see those who used to frequent here so much but have left us.

Offline Earlier, even though I did that group, it said there were 111 new posts! That was a sight.
It’s pretty sad to see many of these people gone, but there are some posts that make you thankful for some disappearances. Right now on the forum everyone seems to have manners and gets along.
I’ll get a good chunk done tonight an I think your prediction sounds pretty accurate.

If they were a troll, then that’s believable, otherwise I think one was evil and the other simply… REALLY annoying.
