There’s been some discussion in the Introduction thread about how awesome the Beatles’ album art is. Here’s a general topic for discussing it.
My personal favourite has to be Revolver forever and ever. It’s just such a magnificent piece of art, and I could (and do) stare at it for a thousand years and still be finding lovely details. A Hard Day’s Night is also immensely charming and iconic.
What’s yours, and why?

Rubber Soul is actually my favourite (not actually the White Album ) because of the originality of the idea, and it’s such a clever use of the (basic) technology they had.
And it looks like they’re stoned off their minds

^That’s a close second or third for me. Also immensely iconic, and I like the colours — that is, when they’re proper.
Edit: can’t forget good old Beatles For Sale . So simple, but the photograph has a certain compositional harmony to it.

‘Rubber Soul ‘ is mine. I love the ‘Beatles For Sale ‘ cover as well but there they look knackered whereas on ‘Rubber Soul ‘ I think they look so damn cool and self-assured, knowing they were miles in front of anyone.
I found a fan-album creation on Steve Hoffman’s forum which I think is tremendous, the artwork was used on ‘Beatles Ballads’ – all credit to the creator, apologies that I cannot remember who it was.
Did any group or artist match the Beatles in terms of how impressive the album artwork was?

Abbey Road because it is still “alive”. You can go to that spot, cross the road, and get your picture taken right where they did.
So glad they didn’t got to Mt. Everest. LOL

Hard choice but I will have to go with Revolver because of the drawings and the photo montage.

I’ve spent the most time gazing at Revolver but I have to go with Abbey Road . I daydream about that crosswalk all the time. Klaus is a close second though…

Revolver and Abbey Road are the only two album covers of the Beatles I spent a fair bit of money on, in getting nicely framed.

It’s by Scottish artist John Byrne (he of the famous double denimed Billy Connolly portrait). He also did album cover art for other Scottish musicians – Stealer’s Wheel, Gerry Rafferty etc.
Also love all of Robert Freeman’s album covers for the Beatles.
Think Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd’s covers are great. Hipgnosis cast a large influence on 70s cover art. Love this one for 10cc:
A couple of Ralph Steadman’s:
Andy Warhol’s Jazz albums cover art is great. But Awwwwwww! there’s just too many album covers by other artists to mention.

Thanks @Penny Lane , tho I was meaning who created the album artwork, not the actual original art.
Here is the cover for ‘Beatles Ballads’ for anyone who hasn’t seen it.

Wasn’t this artwork being considered for the double album before they decided upon the white?…:-)

Yes, it was, with the proposed title “A doll’s house or so it goes but, fortunately, that title was already taken.
MMM…..He was responsible for the album cover art and at the time, was known as Patrick for the album.

My favorite is the White Album . The 60’s copy I own has a serial number on it, making it a unique piece of Beatles artwork. And, in the spirit of the Beatles, the same can equally be said for the millions of other White Album buyers of the time. So good? So good.

The ‘White Album ‘ got my vote as well… In addition to the art angle, it also sports the Best Photography of the band, in my opinion… If I’m not mistaken, we have Linda McCartney to thank for that…:-)

So true. That’s my vote as well, even though they all have merit.

What’s most surprising to me about the replies here thusfar is how ‘With The Beatles ‘ hasn’t even come up in the discussion yet… I had to think long and hard about voting for the ‘White Album ‘ because ‘With The Beatles ‘ was right there… in fact, my #1 & #2 favourite albums are these two… I mentioned Linda McCartney’s prowess in photography earlier, but Astrid is, well… Astrid… a Pinnacle of Immortalizing them as “Beatles 4-Ever”, the ‘With The Beatles ‘ jacket was an obvious nod to her Stellar Work… Linda’s work dove deeper into representations of ‘Beatles’ “as individuals”… which perhaps they were only just becoming in 1968… if I could vote twice, then ‘With The Beatles ‘ gets my 2nd Vote…:-)

I went with Pepper, since I can spend all day looking at it, but really the only one of their album covers that I’m not so keen on is Beatles For Sale , and maybe Let It Be , since they’re just not very Beatley.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I think the thing with BFS cover is that they look
A) exhausted
B) They’re also probably pissed off that they had to do ANOTHER photo shoot.
Have to say I agree with Billy Rhythm about the With The Beatles cover. Very classily done
