Paul McCartney is fined for speeding

Paul McCartney was fined £15 for speeding on 15 July 1963.

This was his second of three driving offences that year. He had been fined £5 after being caught speeding on 8 March.

He was caught again on 15 May, but was let go after promising to produce his licence at Allerton Police Station within five days. He failed to do so, and on this day was fined £15 at Wirral Magistrates’ Court plus a further £2 for failure to produce his documentation. McCartney pleaded guilty by letter.

The third incident was on 14 June, when McCartney drove the other Beatles back to Liveprool, following a Mersey Beat Showcase at the Tower Ballroom in New Brighton. He was pulled over at 11.45pm, and on 26 August was fined £25 plus a further £3 for failing two summonses to produce his licence and insurance documents. He also had his licence suspended for nearly a year.
