Hi, as you can see I am still still alive and existing (which is great fun by the way) and I would appreciate a little help from my friends here.
In a nutshell, me family's just had a complete garden refurbishment and it looks a lot more gooder and lovely, so me mam wants to stage a meet-up with everyone in the world to show off our amazing looking grassy area-- and of course she needs music.
Now I'm not very good at choosing party-appropriate songs (apparently 'House of the Rising Sun' is too depressing) so I was hoping you could give me some advice. Me mum said things like 'Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five ' and 'Medicine Jar' would work so you can also suggest solo-Beatles stuff too.
Basically, which Beatles (and solo) songs do you think would be good as background music at a garden party?
Many many thanks.
P.S. Thanks @Beatlebug and @WeepingAtlasCedars for honouring my memory.

Their early danceable odes would be fab. Pick a few from their first three albums.

That was going to be my exact suggestion.
Also: Ob La Di Ob La Da, Get Back , Back In The USSR , Another Girl , Got To Get You Into My Life .
Paul: My Brave Face, Listen To What The Man Said, Silly Love Songs, Junior's Farm... there are a few Wings / Paul songs you could go with.
John: Do You Want To Dance? from Rock and Roll... actually anything off Rock and Roll, he does amazing with those songs!
George: Got My Mind Set On You, Handle With Care (with the Wilburys), Cloud Nine , Blow Away
Ringo: You're Sixteen (You're Beautiful and You're Mine), Photograph, and since it's a garden party, Stop and Smell The Roses?

On top of that, Choba B CCCP , and Run Devil could both be added to your list.

I just play the Beatles on random and hope for the best! It’s easy to just skip a song if I don’t like it.
Say Revolution 9 comes up, I’ll just hit the skip button and move on!

But Revolution 9 is a necessity in all party playlists.

Yeah, really. How many other songs are out there that mention both the Watusi and the Twist?

GREETINGS, PEPPERSPRAY!
Erm, yeah. So if ye want my two cents (who'm I kidding, of course ye do), I would say pick a couple hits (so people might say 'Ooh, I know this song!' and smile and nod) and then throw in some more obscure but danceable numbers. By danceable I mean you should listen to them and pick the ones that make you want to move the most (I know you call yourself lazy, but a musical man shouldn't find it too hard to pick some groovin' numbers). I find All My Loving to be the ultimate boogie tune and I'm surprised no one has mentioned it. Off the top of my head, New, Save Us, Devil And The Deep Blue Sea, and What Is Life would be fun (for George and John, I'd stay away from the overtly spiritual/political tunes). If you really want to freak people out, you could use something like Blue Jay Way , but I wouldn't recommend it.
So yeah, I'm afraid yer gonna have to use your ears a bit, but ey! we all need excuses to dig 'em all out occasionally.

'Ello Peppy!!
As for some nice dig-able rhythm 'n' blues-type numbers to get your guests reelin' and rockin' it, how about something like Roll Over Beethoven ? You could even throw in Glad All Over or Nothin' Shakin' from Live At The BBC , as they're equally as dance-like-a-spinning-top-able!
Or, for something a tad more garden-y, how about Here Comes The Sun ? After all, it was written in Eric Clapton's garden!
I'm happy to be of help, and I hope your gathering goes well, @pepperland !
Oh, and you're very welcome for honouring you. In the words of George Harrison himself: I'd Have You Anytime .

I would suggest you use Mother Nature's Sun, since it is very relaxed and garden-y. Also, I would recommend George Harrison , the '79 album, because it's not overtly spiritual and very chilled-out for the most part.

Right, thanks everyone with all your suggestions-- I've got a few other ideas too, and I think I might just drop in 'Tomorrow Never Knows ' or somesuchthing just to see people's reactions. This party's gonna be faaaaab (well, the music anyway).
Cheers.

A garden party? Oh dear. You'd need some of Paul's granny songs, plus Rocky & Obladi. Ringo's country tunes. George's Here Comes The Sun . Then, You Know My Name. John's Hard Days Night & In My Life (for the ladies who tea). And of course after the punch is lit and served, Yellow Sub and Hey Bulldog . A good time is guaranteed for all.

House of the Rising Sun is NOT depressing! I'ts bittersweet, in fact it's on the positive end of bittersweet, but I like bitter/angry things so i might be biased

If you're gonna have a Pain at The Party... do it right... 'What's The New Mary Jane ?' for when the tea's finished steepin'... Recommend the take where there's a "party novelty" present... there's one where a party horn (a kazoo?) echoes each line in the verses... what Fabulous time indeed!...:-)
