I’m consulting this thread to make sure I have a good sampler of Beatles songs for my birthday party playlist tomorrow. john-lennon-salute_gif

The party was

FABULOUS

due in no small part to my excellent DJing, of course. a-hard-days-night-john-1 a-hard-days-night-george-4

I AM A DJ, I AM WOT I PLAYY
I GOT BELIEVERS
BELIEVIN’ MEEEeeeeee

The Beatles were reasonably well-represented (thanks to the recent resurgence of Beatles songs on YouTube derek-taylor_01_gif). I tried to keep the playlist well-balanced between all of my favourite artists, although I think David Bowie may have ended up being slightly overrepresented due to both my recent obsession with him, and his penchant for producing particularly weird-party-suitable songs. ahdn_george_06

I think I put most of the obvious suspects on, as well as some that I just really like, such as If I Fell and Because .

John’s lyrics are simple but profound.

Agreed. I tend to like John’s songs more than Paul’s because of that.

Excellent! I’m interested to know if anyone in attendance said anything about The Beatles music? I’m always curious about what non mega fans think about our band, and if they can be lured to our side. a-hard-days-night-george-10

Not a whole lot. I think they were just sort of like ‘yep, that’s a Beatles song — naturally’ because I am famous among my circles for being the Paramount Beatlemaniac and so it goes without saying that I’d play Beatles music at my party. They’ve gained a light knowledge just by virtue of being acquainted with me. a-hard-days-night-john-6 We did more dancing to than talking about the music anyway… a-hard-days-night-george-4

Reading this thread has reminded me of a birthday party I had a little over a year ago. I put on the Live At The BBC album, and my best friend even took to saying “bus” with a Scouse accent after having heard ‘Riding On a Bus’. a-hard-days-night-george-9
