This was mentioned in the SmartLess podcast interview with Paul I mentioned in another thread, James Corden’s parody of Maybe I’m Amazed  from the beginning of October, Maybe I’m Immune, which I’ve had to give a listen to as a result…

I would rather be given 500 lashes with a kendo stick than listen to ELO for 20 minutes. ‘Living Thing’ is bearable just, the rest I find an unnecessary punishment to force upon my hearing.

The Carpenters are far worse tho. Arguably the most boring bland group/duo/whatever I have ever had to suffer. They had the unique ability to take any song and turn it into the most boring empty sludge imaginable to music. Having done so they then somehow made it even worse. Their Beatles covers are an atrocity (including ‘Please Mister Postman )/.

Going through Dylans bootleg series vol. 12. My favorite of the series, and since my girlfriend said she was getting me travelin thru for Christmas I’m going back through my favorite Dylan outtakes. Always emotional for me, Farewell Angelina it is this time that got to me.

I like ELO (particularly A New World Record and Time) but I definitely see what you mean, their sound is all often just too sugary and brushed up, a bit like a lot of Queen’s work.

Recently,  I’ve been bouncing back and forth between early/mid Beatles and early Rolling Stones.  My boyfriend bought some Stones albums and more old Beatles albums including one from Uruguay.

My Spotify year’s roundup, which I’m pretty pleased with. My top artist was Fiona Apple.

Really getting into Lana Del Rey at the moment. I really like Norman F*cking Rockwell last year, and now I’m listening to a lot of Born to Die

Lana was recommended to me by a work colleague and she has some really good material. ‘High By The Beach’ (from ‘Honeymoon’) is an exceptional track.

If you spend four minutes searching google you’ll find 300+ demos, outtakes etc of hers that have leaked over the years, well worth seeking out.

I think it’s their most underrated album, if only for the originals (ok, the Buddy Holly cover is really good too)

Ok weird… I thought he wrote “locusts” to commemorate his getting the honorary degree from Princeton, but that ceremony didn’t happen until a week later.

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.
