@Dingle Lad and @Vera Chuck and Dave, did someone tell you to list Every Little Thing as your top song to get on my good side? That's my favorite Beatles Song!

Ok so here we go let's sees

1) I'll Follow The Sun - I prefer it over Yesterday . to me one of the most beautiful acoustic pieces Paul has composed and it is very much endeering. excellent sharp lyrics, vocal melodies polishes af, and an original vibe that predicts Rubber Soul . 8/10

I was listening to a show on XM about artists who performed one hit wonders. One of the hosts quipped that every single Beatle song would have generated an entire career for the right artist. Although I know he was exaggerating, I had a discussion later with some friends regarding which songs were so good they would have made another artist famous. I'll Follow The Sun was one of the songs we chose.

It's not until I start thinking about my song ranking that I realize that I pretty much love every single track on Beatles For Sale

IMHO one of the best songs on this album is one of the most underrated Beatles' songs:  "Every Little Thing ."  Ringo playing tympani.  Harmonies in parallel fourths.  John's irregular phrase lengths

"No Reply " is also a rhetorical masterpiece, and "Eight Days A Week " deserves its high reputation (especially for its unique fade-in opening), and of course "I'll Follow The Sun "

Also love "I'm A Loser "

"What You're Doing "

"I Don't Want To Spoil The Party " has been growing on me.

The "Kansas City /Hey Hey Hey Hey" cover is a good one, and "Words Of Love " is nicely sung, but the "Rock And Roll Music " and "Everybody's Tryin' to Be My Baby" just sound tired (which the Beatles were, at this point).

I will live perfectly well if I never hear "Baby's In Black ", "Mr. Moonlight", "Honey Don't " again (although the bridge on B in B is harmonically interesting).

1. Kansas City - One of my all-time favorites.

2. Every little thing - Pretty

3. No reply - YOUR FACE

4. What you're doing - Not bad

5. Baby's In Black - ok

6. Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby - yes they are, george.

7. I'll Follow The Sun - pretty, but too short

8. Words Of Love - nice.

9. Mr Moonlight - Besides the bullshit organ solo, it's a nice song

10. Rock n roll music - meh

11. Honey Don't - besides the riff, it's got nothing good

12. I Don't Want To Spoil The Party - i dont love it

13. I'm A Loser - Overrated

14. Eight Days A Week - Seriously, this song isn't very good. It has no real charm.

how I'd rank everything now, compared to my last ranking a year ago

  1. Every Little Thing
  2. No Reply
  3. Baby's In Black
  4. I'm A Loser
  5. Words Of Love (the guitar tone and harmonies on this one are so great)
  6. Eight Days A Week
  7. What You're Doing (I was considering ranking I Don't Want... above this, but Paul's vocal makes this one)
  8. I Don't Want To Spoil The Party
  9. Kansas City /Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey! (this one's grown on me)
  10. I'll Follow The Sun (despite the low ranking, I do quite like this one)
  11. Honey Don't
  12. Mr. Moonlight (John's vocal on this is great, that organ solo on the other hand...)
  13. Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby (jeez, there's a LOT of echo on George's voice here)
  14. Rock And Roll Music

1 - Every Little Thing (underrated gem)

2 - I'll Follow The Sun (Love Paul's voice in this one)

3 - I'm A Loser (so relatable lol)

4 -  Words Of Love (great cover and the harmonies are so good)

5 - Eight Days A Week (always a joy to listen to this one)

6 - Baby's In Black (another great harmonies)

7 - No Reply

8 - What You're Doing (fantastic guitar by George)

9 -  I Don't Want To Spoil The Party

10 - Kansas City / Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!

11 - Honey Don't

12 - Rock And Roll Music

13 - Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby (I hardly listen to one, really)

14 - Mr.Moonlight (probably the worst Beatle cover)

You can tell I'm not a fan of the covers, but the original material is pretty good. I wonder how the album would improve by only adding originals, but I get it it was a turbulent time for them.

It has awesome energy and depth. What You’re Doing is just about my favourite song from Paul. The harmonies are heavenly. The Lennon trilogy is one of the best openings to a Beatles album, and Eight Days A Week is particularly iconic. I like all the songs for different reasons but those stick out.

1.The Beatles 2.Sgt. Pepper 3.Abbey Road 4.Magical Mystery Tour 5.Rubber Soul 6.Revolver 7.Help! 8.Let It Be
9.A Hard Day’s Night 10.Please Please Me 11.Beatles For Sale 12.With The Beatles 13.Yellow Submarine

(No, I didn't give up the ranking yesterday, bloody exams got in the way a-hard-days-night-paul-3 now it looks as though they're here to stay (wrong album))

I actually got quite into this one last year and it's my personal favourite of their albums so far. I've never quite understood why many people rank it so low, I love every track here! a-hard-days-night-paul-7

I'll Follow The Sun

Baby's In Black

What You're Doing

Words Of Love

I'm A Loser

Kansas City /Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!

Rock And Roll Music

Every Little Thing

Eight Days A Week

No Reply

Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby (George's echoey double-tracked vocal in the choruses are awesome. Some great guitar work from him too!)

I Don't Want To Spoil The Party

Honey Don't

Mr Moonlight (bottom of the list but I still love this one and John putting his all into it - if you want a more upbeat rocking version, I'd suggest The Hollies' take on it from a year earlier.)

...live 'Star-Club' version! Faster tempo, Ringo pounding those skins, loud electric guitar replicating that lugubrious Hammond solo, John goofing on the lyric ("Here I am, on my nose...") - so much better! If only it had the acapella intro...

An album recorded quickly when the Beatles didn't have enough songs. Half of the songs are ordinary covers. However, some of the original songs are quite inspired and show an evolution in the songwriting, especially for John.

  1. I'm A Loser (B+)
An introspective and inspired song by John. The production is primitive but the melody is very good.
  2. No Reply (B+)
A very well constructed song with mature lyrics and touching interpretation.
  3. Eight Days A Week (B+)
A catchy and very well constructed song
  4. I'll Follow The Sun (B)
    A light and melodic song
  5. What Your Doing : (B)
An underrated and pleasant song by Paul.
  6. Rock N Roll Music (C)
A well-performed and pleasant Chuck Berry cover
  7. Kansas City (C)
    A well performed classic song
  8. Baby's In Black (D)
    A Fair and ordinary song.
  9. Every Little Thing (D)
    An ordinary and primitive song.
  10. I Don't Want To Spoil The Party (D)
    Another light and dull song
  11. Honey Don't (D)
A fair Carl Perkins cover sang by Ringo.
  12. Words Of Love (D)
A Buddy Holly cover quickly forgotten.
  13. Mr. Moonlight (D)
A Roy Lee Johnson cover used to fill.
  14. Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby (D)
Another Carl Perkins cover sang by George. Quite boring

I became a real Beatles fan in 2008 after attending Paul's concert in Quebec City.

Favorite Album: Revolver and The White Album
Favorite song by John : Strawberry Fields Forever || Favorite song by Paul : Eleanor Rigby
Favorite song by George : While My Guitar Gently Weeps
