Wings began recording the Venus And Mars song ‘Medicine Jar’ on 11 November 1974.
The song had been written in the early 1970s by McCulloch and drummer Colin Allen during their time in Scottish rock band Stone The Crows. Originally titled ‘Itchy Fingers’, their band first recorded the song in 1973 at a London community centre.
On this first day Wings recorded 28 takes, although 11 of those were false starts and incomplete. Take 28 was judged the best until the following day, and had Jimmy McCulloch on guitar and guide vocals, Paul McCartney on electric piano, Linda McCartney on organ, Denny Laine on guitar, and Geoff Britton on drums.
