Filming, recording: One Hand Clapping by Wings

Studio Two, EMI Studios, London
Producer: Paul McCartney
Engineer: Geoff Emerick

The final filming and recording session for Wings’ documentary One Hand Clapping took place on 30 August 1974.

The sessions were recorded at Abbey Road throughout the week, and were filmed by a crew directed by David Litchfield.

This day featured only Paul McCartney. It began in the yard at the back of the studios, and saw McCartney accompanying himself with an acoustic guitar.

He firstly performed a number of old rock ‘n’ roll and folk songs: ‘Sweet Little Sixteen’, ‘Loving You’, ‘We’re Gonna Move’, ‘Freight Train’, ‘Cumberland Gap’, ‘Rock Island Line’, ‘When I’m Cleaning Windows’, and ‘Blue Moon Of Kentucky’. He then played a mixture of original songs and cover versions: Sally G, ‘Blackpool’, ‘Blackbird’, ‘Country Dreamer’, ‘Peggy Sue’, ‘Twenty Flight Rock’, and ‘I’m Gonna Love You Too’. The last six of these was issued as a bonus 7″ on early vinyl copies of the One Hand Clapping album in 2024.

McCartney and the film crew then returned to Studio Two. He performed several solo piano versions of ‘Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five’, followed by live vocal performances over the album version of the song.
