Recording: Hands Of Love by Wings

Studio Two, EMI Studios, London
Producer: Paul McCartney
Engineer: Alan Parsons

Wings recorded the Red Rose Speedway song ‘Hands Of Love’ on 1 October 1972.

It was recorded in eight takes, four of which were complete. It had Paul McCartney on acoustic guitar, Henry McCullough on electric guitar, Denny Laine on bass guitar, and Denny Seiwell on drums.

Take six was selected as the master, although much of the recording was replaced by overdubs. Seiwell re-recorded his drums, McCullough added bongos, McCartney replaced Laine’s bass part, and Laine and McCullough recorded three acoustic and three electric guitar parts. Paul and Linda McCartney then recorded their lead vocals.

Before the close of the session, studio engineer Alan Parsons edited together take six with take three of ‘Lazy Dynamite’ as part of the medley that closed Red Rose Speedway.

Well, I kinda like the idea of medleys, as it’s structured. It’s sort of operatic, you know. And it’s good fun putting things like this together, finding little links and ways to go from this to that. We had done it on the Abbey Road album, at the end. And what we’d done there was John and I both had bits of songs that we hadn’t finished. So we put them into a medley and it worked. So this was me doing it again.
