Tuesday 30 June 1970 was the 18th recording session for George Harrison’s third solo album All Things Must Pass.
Just one song was worked on: ‘Run Of The Mill’, which had been worked on during earlier sessions on 29 May and 24 June.
Twenty-four takes, numbered 16-39, were recorded. However, none were considered good enough, and a further 22 takes, including the album master, were taped the following day.
A jam was recorded after take 39. It was listed on the tape box as ‘Down To The River (Rocking Chair Jam)’ take 1. The song was taken no further during the All Things Must Pass sessions, but was re-recorded as ‘Rocking Chair In Hawaii’ on Harrison’s posthumous album Brainwashed.
George did a country and western version when he was recording All Things Must Pass. He didn’t have all the words to it and he was sort of yodelling around in the background. I was really surprised because I thought ‘Rocking Chair In Hawaii’ was written since living in Hawaii but it actually had been around in some form since way back when.
