Paul McCartney recorded ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’, one of the highlights of his debut solo album McCartney, on 15 February 1970.
The EMI sessions were booked under the pseudonym Billy Martin to prevent expectations being unduly raised, and to stop the other Beatles and Apple from knowing what McCartney was planning.
He played every single instrument, did all the vocals with one small contribution from Linda, but it was a song, ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’. He did the whole thing, start to finish, every instrument, bass drums, guitars, keyboards, everything, in a day, and I remember being so, so impressed with that.

McCartney began by recording piano and lead vocals, recorded onto tracks 1 and 2 of the eight-track tape. He then added drums to 3 and bass guitar to 4. Backing vocals, with Linda McCartney also contributing handclaps, were recorded onto track 5.
Organ and more backing vocals were overdubbed onto track 6, and the song was completed with rhythm and lead electric guitar parts, added to tracks 7 and 8 respectively.
A preliminary mix was made by studio engineers Phil McDonald and Alan Parsons, but the song was mixed properly on 22 February 1970.
