The Liverpool Echo is discussing whether the young Paul and Mike McCartney feature in this picture of youngsters on the Oglet Shore near Speke:

Main-picture.jpgImage Enlarger

When you go into this section of the picture, it is believed the younger two lads in the picture could be Paul and Mike.

section.jpgImage Enlarger

Mike has said:

I couldn’t say it is definitely us, but it might well be!

I’d say there is a 50/50 chance it’s us. We did wear shorts like that with the braces on. Our hair did look like that. And the height difference between the two boys looks right as our kid is 18 months older than me.

There was a girl, whose name I can’t remember – she was our next door neighbour in Western Avenue, Speke (we were number 72, so she would have been 70 or 74). She was more our kid’s age, and she did look like the girl standing next to the boy in the photo who could be Paul. It’s a fascinating story!

We did walk down to Oggie Shore a lot and, as for the clothes, my mum was a very proud woman and if those shorts with braces attached were worn by the young royals, then we should wear them!

If it is us, then it must be one of the oldest photographs of us together that is in the public domain. But it is clear that we are not the focus of it – we’re in the background, so we’re very early photobombers!

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Every time I’ve seen this picture

Jimmy-Tarbuck.jpgImage Enlarger

I always thought: “The kid making fists had a moptop before moptops were cool.”

Here’s a story about the man, Jimmy-Tarbuck, who was that kid.

Who would have thought that two boys I was at primary school with would end up becoming part of the most famous pop group in the world?

George Harrison was two years below me, while John Lennon was in my class. Here’s John (left) and me (right), doing a boxing pose, on a school trip to the Isle of Man.

John was a genius who was never lost for words. The band later nicknamed me ‘the fifth Beatle’ because I had the same haircut and black suit.

Tarbuck was a popular comedian here in Britain during the 60s and 70s. Unfortunately, he got dragged into Operation Yewtree a few years ago, but he was released without charge afterwards. I’m glad to see he’s moved on from that. Nice article a-hard-days-night-john-6

I wasn’t sure where to put this. I also posted it in the History section but thought it might be of interest here. There’s a great little youtube clip which based on the famous 1957 Summer Fete picture when Paul and John met proves the exact location in the church garden where John would have been performing.

This picture has cropped up a lot this week following the death of Peter Sissons:

John-Lennon-school-trip-1951-1-1.jpgImage Enlarger

Peter Sissons, a BBC newsreader and former Question Time host, is the blonde boy to the left, his hand on John’s shoulder, while on John’s right, in a boxer’s stance, is the comedian Jimmy Tarbuck. All three attended Dovedale Junior School, Tarbuck was in John’s class, while Sissons was in the year below (ending up in the same class as Paul when he went on to the Liverpool Institute). The picture was taken by teacher Fred Bolt during the summer of 1951 while on a school trip to the Isle of Man.

There are three other pictures from the trip:

John-Lennon-school-trip-1951-2.jpgImage Enlarger

John is seen in the left-hand train window, his head popping up behind two lads leaning out the window;

John-Lennon-school-trip-1951-3.jpgImage Enlarger

John is on the left of the boys sitting on the bottom step;

John-Lennon-school-trip-1951-4.jpgImage Enlarger

John is on the right behind the boy who’s kneeling and the two boys laying on the shingle.

Possibly 1959 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/ne…..erges.html

1959-1.jpgImage Enlarger

The image, thought to have been taken in late 1959, was found in a purchase by music memorabilia specialists Tracks Ltd.

Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn said: ‘There are few Quarrymen photos and a discovery such as this is extremely rare. Within a year of this moment the Quarrymen had become The Beatles.’
