That is interesting and I agree it does fit.
Another lyric I noticed recently and perhaps I’m also reading too much into it…
John sings “She’s so heavy” about Yoko
Paul sings “Boy you’re gonna Carry That Weight a long time”
Was this Paul’s sly dig? He often used “boy” as a put down as in “Dear Boy “.

I put it on my record player, slapped me good headphones on, turned out the lights, and just SAT THERE AND ABSORBED IT. ‘Come Together ‘ blew my mind apart and ‘Because ‘ melted my ears. Really, it was almost a spiritual experience.

After this listen, I’m thinking of abstaining from this album until 26 September (its 50th anniversary). Anyone care to join me? It’s going to be difficult, but with your support, I think I can get through an Abbey Road -deprived summer. There will be other summers, but its big five-oh only comes once.

Maybe. Are you abstaining from the album or from the songs? Would I have to go the whole summer without listening to Here Comes The Sun , or would it be okay on its own?

Already been on it since Thanksgiving (The White Album 50th). I’ve done it for Revolver , Pepper, and The Beatles and I’m surely going to do it for Abbey Road . Always makes the 50th anniversary an extra special day when you get a fresh listen of your favorite album.

I remember the first time I listened to Abbey Road straight through I started crying when “The End ” ended and went into “Her Majesty ” because it was such a wonderful musical experience and I was sad that it was over.

To add on to what myself said a few weeks back– I was listening to this wonderful album today and I started to tear up around “Carry That Weight ” and started to full-on sob at the end of “The End .” So my extreme emotional reaction to this album wasn’t limited to the first time I listened to it……
The Beatles really gotta do me like that
Ok I’m done going back and double-posting now, I swear!

I get goosebumps every single time i hear the medley. It varies where in the album, usually during the medley (polythene>she came in) but that album never fails to garner a physical response from me.

Reflecting on Abbey Road , and after many listens, sometimes I can’t conceive it is a real album. It’s such a perfect closer for the Beatles. The Beatles were a pretty imperfect band, even though their material could be fantastic, they sometimes weren’t that consistent, was it Yellow Submarine , or a Side B here and there, or some track on the White Album , they had proven that while being the best band of their era, they could also be flawed, and that was a charming quality of them as well. Sometimes I feel there’s another universe were the Beatles career ended with the White Album , and then Let It Be posthumously, and some of the tracks on Abbey Road were just solo stuff and some never even released.
Abbey Road seems like such an unlikable outcome out of the tension and wrestling between the members of the band around 1968-1969. How is it that after one of their hardest times as a band they could pull one of the best records ever made just as a closing act, after rubbersoulrevolversgtpeppermagicalmysterytourthewhitealbum?, one of the greatest and best album progressions ever made. It seems unreal. The medley is just icing on the cake. Abbey Road as a whole is an irrefutable piece of evidence of the Beatles as one of the effortless acts of genius in the world of music, and perfect timing.
My point is they were the greatest band after the White Album already, they already have many classic albums. So why the f**k was Abbey Road needed? Only a god would make that album just as a side note. That’s what makes the medley special to me, not that it is already one of the best 16-minute pieces of music ever made, but because of its position on their discography entirely. It was so unlikely for the greatest band to have such a perfectly crafted finish. It astonishes me to this day.

I remember when I first heard it: I was blown away. The medley is genius because the subject matter is fun and poignant.
