The lead actors have been confirmed for director Sam Mendes’ four Beatles biopics.
Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, and Barry Keoghan will play John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr respectively in The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event, which is due for theatrical release in April 2028.
The tagline for the series is: “Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary.” Mendes is to direct the four biopics, each of which will focus on one member of The Beatles. Mendes, Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor of Neal Street will produce along with Alexandra Derbyshire in association with Apple Corps for Sony Pictures.
The director and four lead actors made an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday 31 March 2025. The actors recited lines from 1967’s ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’: “It’s wonderful to be here, it’s certainly a thrill. You’re such a lovely audience, we’d like to take you home with us.”
We’re not just making one film about the Beatles – we’re making four. Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.
The project has the blessing of McCartney and Starr, and of the estates of Lennon and Harrison. It marks the first time The Beatles and Apple Corps have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.
