Rehearsal: Double Fantasy by John Lennon

The second of three days of rehearsals for John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Double Fantasy album took place on 4 August 1980.

The rehearsals were held at the couple’s apartment 72 at the Dakota Building in Manhattan, New York City, on 2, 4, and 5 August. The recording sessions began at the Hit Factory on 7 August.

On this day, producer Jack Douglas, arranger Tony Davilio, and keyboard player George Small worked with Lennon and Ono around the couple’s white grand piano.

The whole atmosphere was charged. It was quite an apartment. I remember walking into the wrong room and it was filled from one end to the other, three levels high, with fur coats and other clothing. I also remember the solid gold bathroom fixtures and the huge kitchen; it could have been a kitchen for a restaurant. That stands out in my mind.
