Wings continued work on two songs for the Back To The Egg album on 19 October 1978: ‘Baby’s Request’ and the unreleased ‘Cage’.
The backing track for ‘Baby’s Request’ had been recorded two days before. It was completed during this session with lead vocals and a Minimoog synthesizer solo by Paul McCartney, and harmony vocals by Paul and Linda McCartney and Denny Laine.
Paul wanted a calliope fairground sound on ‘Cage’. Wings improvised by blowing across the tops of bottles of Scotch whisky.
We all gathered around a microphone and were handed bottles of Scotch whisky,” Laurence explained. “Blowing across the top of a bottle produces a quite pure tone, but the only way to change the pitch was to drink some of the amber contents. Needless to say we were quite tipsy at the end of the session.

Stereo mixes of ‘Baby’s Request’ and a jam titled ‘Harmonizer Ramblings’ were also made towards the end of the session.
Visiting the studio on this day were George Harrison and George Martin. Harrison listened to ‘Baby’s Request’ in the control room, and liked what he heard. “We were playing him some stuff and we happened to be working on ‘Baby’s Request’,” said McCartney. “And he was saying, ‘Oh, that’s nice, I like that,’ because he likes mellow stuff.”
