The Beatles’ 1965 song ‘Yesterday’ was released as a single in the UK on 8 March 1976, with ‘I Should Have Known Better’ on the b-side.
The Beatles’ contract with EMI had recently expired, which allowed the label to repackage the band’s recordings. On this day they reissued all 22 of The Beatles’ singles, as well as the new one.
The reissues came in green and black sleeves, and were also included in the Singles Collection 1962–1970 box set. More than one million singles were sold within the first month, with ‘Yesterday’ peaking at number eight on the UK singles chart.
