Recording: Helen Wheels by Wings

EMI Studios, Lagos
Producer: Paul McCartney
Engineer: Geoff Emerick

The fifth recording session for Wings’ third album, Band On The Run, took place on 7 September 1973.

The sessions were held at EMI Studios at 7 Wharf Road in Apapa, Lagos.

The precise recording dates are not known, but it is likely that on this day they continued work on the song ‘Helen Wheels’. The song was released as a single towards the end of 1973, and was included on the US version of Band On The Run.

The backing track had Paul McCartney on drums, Linda McCartney on cowbell, and Denny Laine on bass drum. Overdubs included electric guitar by Paul and Denny Laine, synthesizer by Linda, and Paul’s lead vocals.
