Following their success performance on the opening night of the Casbah Club, the Quarrymen were booked for a Saturday night residency by the owner, Mona Best.
This was the group’s second show at the venue, which was based in the cellar of a large Victorian house in Hayman’s Green, Liverpool.
The Quarrymen performed at the Casbah on seven occasions. The other dates were 29 August; 12, 19 and 26 September; and 3 and 10 October 1959. The Beatles played the venue a further 37 times: 17 and 31 December 1960; 15 and 29 January; 12, 19 and 26 February; 5, 12, 19 and 26 March; 6, 13 and 27 August; 10 and 24 September; 22 October; 19 and 24 November; 3 and 17 December 1961; 7, 14, 21 and 28 January; 4, 11, 18 and 25 February; 4, 11, 18 and 25 March; 1, 7 and 8 April; and 24 June 1962.
