I'm doing a “cleaning” of my computer files, and I discovered some albums I downloaded months ago because I listened to a song from that particular band that I liked. Example : 3 Doors Down, Hinder (before you shoot me I got this music from my students, I'm open to any new music). But then I got the Beatles Stereo Box Set, and I started listening to the Beatles every day. I listen to that music back and I'm like blue-meanie. I just can't stand it!! From a list of 8 albums, the only one saved was a Def Leppard Greatest Hits (I have fond memories of my childhood, they're my guilty pleasure).

Has this ever happened to you?

Edit “Have the Beatles…”

Yeah, I used to listen to really a-hard-days-night-ringo-14-y stuff before I became a Beatlemaniac. Disney stuff. I shall say no more.

I'm in love, but I'm lazy.

I don't know. Probably. But I DO hear songs (frequently) that remind me of the Beatles. I usually try to refrain from saying, “(insert band or musician name here)? Who the (censored) are/is (insert band or musician name here)?” because I used to see the Beatles like that. (Remember, this is BEFORE I heard their music.)

If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind that is confusing things.

I don't know if they have or not because whenever I get something new I just obsess over it if I like it, which is obviously what I've done with the Beatles. I think they've let me realize that it's about quality, not quantity and so I feel like I can really enjoy the music that I listen to now.

I was a wannabe-gangster before I found the Beatles. Wore the shirts, the hat sideways, things like that. Thank god for grammar and The Beatles.

Oh yeah, when I was a freshman in college I listened to the Who's Quadrophenia for about 4 or 5 months straight, and now I absolutely hate the album! After that I listened to Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road for quite a while and so on and so on.

No one has really stuck like the Beatles though, although recently I've started listening to this funk band, the Meters, and they are entering Beatle territory.

And thanks about the signature, I am just obsessed with that song right now. Thank you George for being, well, George.a-hard-days-night-george-9

I love The Beatles but I still listen to other bands, just not as much since The Beatles have come in. They replaced Shinedown as my favourite band and I've actually started listening to different bands since discovering The Beatles.

Perhaps not “ruined” but I often go through the cycle of “Beatle guilt.” a-hard-days-night-paul-1

If I listen to another artist too much, I feel as if I'm betraying the boys! (Yes, it's a problem.) It's not like I'm tired of them in the least- they're a part of me now- but when I obsess over something new (I know what you mean, GnikNus) I feel guilty and run back to Sgt. Pepper or the White Album in a flash!

Tongue, lose thy light. Moon, take thy flight… see ya, George!

Umb. Interesting. The problem is that there's no a before and after Beatles for me. I've known them for all my life so I can't tell a difference.

Maybe I didn't like the new bands as much as other music I like. I tried something different example the music I loved when I was younger (my teen years, 20s) and I spent hours listening to Mr. Mister, Queen, some rock ballads from the 80s and 90s.

And I never feel like betraying the Beatles. I mean, they know I'm married to them for the rest of my life. Actually I want to ask my nephews that when I die I want to be written in my gravestone :  Elisa ….. ……….  Born in 1970. Died in ….  Devoted fan of John, Paul, George and Ringo. (instead of Devoted wife of someone)

Looks like you…fell. I don't know, I like to think of the Beatles in terms of where they have taken me musically. I really thought rock 'n roll was the answer for me, but I just got so tired of some of those bands, ie the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Who, etc, that I knew I had to pursue other options. The great thing about the Beatles is how many different styles they could play, so I feel like it was easier to expand to other avenues of music because I was at least a little bit used to hearing them.

So I've never stopped with the Beatles but there are plenty of bands that I don't listen to anymore. But I always feel like I'm on a quest to find the music that I absolutely love, and so I feel like the Beatles were sort of my starting point.

Huh.. Interesting!! I fell… where?? I'd like to know!! a-hard-days-night-george-9 I agree with you about the starting point… I never thought of it that way.

I don't know. Maybe I'm too picky. What I try to say is that those new bands don't say anything to me. So maybe… instead of having my tastes ruined by the Beatles, I have changed my tastes in general because you're a different person when you're 20 than when you're 40.

Mhh interesting. thanks guys for sharing your opinions.. I like this! a-hard-days-night-george-8

On the contrary, I believe The Beatles have enhanced my musical tastes.  Since The Beatles incorporated all types of musicical influences into their craft, I have sampled all types of music.  I enjoy Rock, Reggae, R&B, Light Pop, Power Pop, Jazz, Classical and some Country.

Had it not been for a-hard-days-night-john-1a-hard-days-night-paul-5a-hard-days-night-george-9a-hard-days-night-ringo-2, I'm sure my musical tastes would be quite narrow.

That being said, no matter what other types of music I enjoy, I always come home to the Founding Fathers.

I used to listen to a wide variety of classic rock and 90s grunge/alternative, but that has cut back drastically since The Beatles came into the picture about a year ago.  I have no problem with the music I used to listen to, but when I listen to other bands while The Beatles are readily at hand I feel sometimes like I am wasting time not listening to The Beatles.  It is like, “I can listen to this GREAT music, but it would be even better if I listened to this AMAZING! music”

Exactly!

I've always been a fan of music from before my time, it was only a matter of time before I came to The Beatles.

Step 1. Get your copy of “A Hard Day's Night.”

Step 2. If it's a CD, skip to track 3. If it isn't, wait it out.

Step 3. Get it?

See, my experience is precisely the opposite! The hype surrounding the 2009/09/09 remasters marketing campaign (and my subsequent exhaustive assembly of “Alternate History Tour”) sent me on a major Beatles kick, my first in years. And for many months thereafter, I've been overlooking other music. In particular, I belong to a “funk listening club” on another website I frequent, and I've made very few contributions to that forum. And even though I listen to very little new music anyways, there's all sorts of old stuff I've been ignoring. I ask myself “How can you listen to those Beatles tracks you've heard a thousand times before when you've got those Miles Davis boxes and Beach Boys  twofers and Funkadelic remasters sitting there, practically untouched?”

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.
