This is brilliant.
STORY
Once upon a time, or maybe twice, there was an unearthly paradise called Pepperland . The protectors of Pepperland , Sgt. Pepper ’s Lonely Hearts Club Band have been captured by the music hating Blue Meanies. Their plan is to ban music and steal all colour. Old Fred in his Yellow Submarine recruited The Beatles to be the new protectors, bring back the music and the colours. Only The Beatles can save Pepperland !
The hack was recently updated to v1.2 to fix some bugs and includes minor level changes.
BACKGROUND
The Beatles Adventures in Pepperland is a NES hack that transforms Super Mario Bros 2. into a Beatles-themed game with new levels, enemies, graphics and of course The Beatles music in glorious 8-bit. Play as John, Paul, George and Ringo each equipped with unique abilities. The game is loosely based on the 1968 film Yellow Submarine . which actually had it’s american release on Nov 13, 53 years ago this week.
THE BEATLES
George is an all-round character who can float in the air for a very short time.
Paul can flutter jump and can jump pretty high from a stand still, even without a charge jump.
Ringo is really fast but can’t jump that good. By pressing jump again you’ll give him a small boost.
John can float in the air for quite some time, but he is the most hesitant to pick up stuff to throw at enemies.
DEVELOPMENTThis hack has been the passion project of romhacker Nesdraug for quite some time. Development started January 11, 2019. One year later Shauing joined Nesdraug to function as the music programmer and that’s where the development really began.
Over the course of the production many fans of The Beatles and romhacking in general joined and helped with adding graphics, codes and feedback. MednaTheGreat helped to make the sprites look more professional and Iridium_ionizer designed some of the Bosses. Shauing also designed the Submarine on the title screen and the Bulldog boss.
SMB2Edit was used to create the levels and previous SMB2 hacks by GlitchCat7 and Ridley X where used as inspiration for some of the levels.
The team learned a lot, much thanks to The SMB2 Discombobulators who helped with questions about ASM and provided a full disassemble of SMB2

Have to admit I was hugely surprised to hear an actual Beatles track licensed to a non-Beatles film. Hearing Magical Mystery Tour , even if only largely in the background in Dolby 7.1 was utterly amazing.

This would be a perfect fit in the “Beatles in Pop Culture” thread rather than creating a new thread for a subject that is likely to have very little response.

Move it as you see fit, but I would have thought The Beatles in film was also a great fit, particularly as “Yesterday ” is also here. Not aware of the other thread. Not much on this website seems to get a lot of response TBH anyway which given their enduring popularity is bizarre.

Yesterday has a thread because the premise of the film is that The Beatles have been wiped from the minds of everyone on the planet bar one person, who goes on to build a career using their songs.
It even features an appearance by a still-alive John, while the whole soundtrack is covers of Beatles songs.
That’s rather different to having threads for films that don’t have any more to do with The Beatles apart from having licensed one song for the soundtrack. That’s not that uncommon, I can think of films that have a Beatles song on the soundtrack with ease.
The Social Network (Baby, You’re a Rich Man); Minions (Revolution ); The Parent Trap (Here Comes The Sun ); The Boss Baby (Blackbird ); Love Actually (All You Need Is Love ); Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (Twist & Shout — which they were allowed overdub horns onto)… I could easily go on.

A brief snip of Love Me Do plays during the Minions movie. I’ve Got To Get You Into My Life plays at the beginning of the credits. The Minions’ “cover” of Revolution happens after the credits have finished.

If that was in the most recent Minions movie it might have been almost half decent.
The Beatles are mentioned at the very end of the extended version of the Cliff Richard & The Young Ones ‘Living Doll’.

Haha, I love that Beatles-skinned Mario World 2 hack! Especially the NES soundbank music.
My current favorite Beatles-related pop-culture thing is this coingamer2 youtuber. They hunt for and create a mix of certain bits of songs, e.g. one for every time The Beatles sing “Yeah,” whenever they scream, or in this amusing case any kind of food/drink:
Very funny sounds result, especially once you get to Sgt. Pepper .
