The backing track is quite cool, I'm surprised they didn't get lost when the guitars cut out.

Fantastic that Paul McCartney could write such mundane topics into absolute overlooked classics. Paperback Writer , We Can Work It Out and Day Tripper are underrated Beatles tracks which belong alongside Let It Be , Fool On The Hill and Back In The USSR .

I often fantasise about this and Rain being squeezed onto the official Revolver tracklist. Same with Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out on Rubber Soul . Superb albums with even more superb content on them. Both eras were something special, and I grew to like Paperback Writer a lot more than I used to. The harmonising, guitar work and general vibe is laid back and catchy in a low key way.

@Timothy where would it fit in? Would it replace something or be squeezed it?

I've tried in the past to work out the correct, best sequence for a 16-song Revolver , fitting in the two additional songs without a) changing the two side-openers and side-closers (yeah, I realize that the CD version doesn't have two sides); or b) placing any lead vocalist in two consecutive songs. (Revolver being really the only Beatles album that accomplishes that, alternating lead singer after every song, start to finish.) I think I decided that my favourite way of doing that would be by placing "Rain " in between "Here There & Everywhere" and "Yellow Submarine "; and "Paperback Writer " between "Dr. Robert" and "I Want To Tell You ". I'm still not entirely happy with that sequence, but it seems to be the best (imo) way to accomplish it, without changing the actual 14 songs' positions with relation to each other.

If I kept it 14 songs, I'd nix Love You To , place Paperback Writer as track 7 (opening side 2) before She Said, She Said, imbalancing the sides.

I agree about keeping the opening intact, especially Taxman . I love the idea George gets to open a Beatles album and he deserves that. Ideally I’d keep all the songs and squeeze Paperback Writer and Rain into the existing tracklist. I think Paperback Writer after Doctor Robert , then Rain , then continuing on with I Want To Tell You . I decide that to maintain and extend the existing McCartney-Lennon sequencing of side two. As for Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out , I think they’re so good they could be the opening two tracks. Easily. Why I love Rubber Soul so much is how it includes a good amount of John and Paul vocal sharing, which Drive My Car , if it became a third track, has too.

You disrupt the album too much with all 4 or all 2. Only change one, or not at all, otherwise it wouldn't get a deluxe reissue.

We're not talking about adding DT/WCWIO to "Revolver ", are we? That makes no sense!
