I thought this was as good a place as any to post this. David Cassidy’s anecdotes about hanging out with John.
“You were at Lennon’s Rock and Roll sessions in LA, right?”
“Yeah, and he came to my house on New Year’s eve and we got drunk and played Beatles songs and I got to sing Paul’s parts. When you play in casinos, they don’t like you to tell stories so much, most times they say [brusquely] “Just play your songs.” So instead I just say “I was lucky enough to play Beatles songs with John Lennon till five in the morning and here was one we played.” Keep it short. John and I became good friends when he was recording Rock and Roll so I was able to come down to the studio a couple of times and if you could imagine Phil Spector walking around with a fucking gun…It was nuts.”

Offline I’d like to think that if John Lennon heard that, he in turn would be so humbled he would, in effect, “do a Ving Rhames”.
It reminds me of when the New Yorker (back when it was the real New Yorker) at around the time when Elton John was just beginning to get hot, expressed their demure dismay at the fact that in New York City at some venue, John Lennon was among those waiting in line to get an autograph from Elton John, and not the other way around.

Since Xmas is coming up, I thought I’d share this excerpt from a letter from John to his cousin, Liela, in January, 1979.
“I thought of you a lot this Xmas — the cottage — the record player — ‘Good Ship Lollipop’ — ‘I found my love on TREASURE ISLAND’ — the OWL(S)? The shadows on the ceiling as the cars went by at night — putting up the paper chains — even Norman turns into Santa Klaus in my memory! (muttering in his chair by the fire.)

Offline I was just reading a book on John Lennon ‘s art and read a section about John Lennon ‘s “You Are Here” exhibit and Yoko’s corresponding “This is Not Here” exhibit. I like the conceptual relationship they had going of making art and responding to each other’s art, whether it be visual art or music.
People tend to overlook anything to do with Yoko, but she was such an important part of his creative process.
