Mixing: Same Time Next Year by Wings

Studio One, Abbey Road Studios, London
Producer: Paul McCartney

A mixing session for Wings’ song ‘Same Time Next Year’ took place on 8 May 1978.

The band had recorded the song on 5 May, and it was completed the following day with an orchestral overdub. The final stereo mixes were made on this day at RAK Studios in London.

The song was written for the 1978 film Same Time, Next Year, directed by Robert Mulligan and starring Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn. However, it was not used in the film, since Mulligan believed that the song gave away key plot points.

Paul McCartney remixed ‘Same Time Next Year’ in January 1981 for the abandoned Cold Cuts rarities and outtakes project. It was remixed again by Bill Prince in 1987, but remained unreleased until it became the b-side of the 1990 single ‘Put It There’.
