EMI Studios, Lagos
Producer: Paul McCartney
Engineer: Geoff Emerick
The second recording session for Wings’ third album, Band On The Run, took place on 4 September 1973.
The sessions were held at EMI Studios at 7 Wharf Road in Apapa, Lagos.
The precise recording dates are not known, but it is likely that on this day they continued work on ‘Mamumia’ and began recording ‘Band On The Run’.
The latter song was recorded in two sections. Part one contained the first two verses, and the second part began with the acoustic guitar before the line “Well the rain exploded with a mighty crash”.
The basic track had Paul McCartney on drums (spread across three tracks), Denny Laine on electric guitar, and Linda McCartney on keyboards and synthesizer. Paul and Denny then overdubbed more electric guitars, and Paul added a bass guitar part. Part two had Laine on acoustic guitar, and the overdubs included both acoustic and electric guitars as well as bass.
