John Lennon and Yoko Ono flew from Arima in Trinidad, to London, England, on 2 May 1971.
They had arrived in Arima on 26 April 1971. The main purpose of their visit was to see Michael X and his family. Michael X, born Michael de Freitas in Trinidad in 1933, was an activist also known as Michael Abdul Malik and Abdul Malik.
During their stay in Arima, Lennon typed out the lyrics of the song ‘Imagine’ onto stationery from the hotel Hassina’s at 26 Christina Gardens in Arima. The lyrics had the postscript “March ’71, London, Madrid, Trinidad”, suggesting that the song had been worked on for several weeks.
