The Beatles attended a meditation session with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in London, on the evening of 31 August 1967.
The band first met Maharishi on 24 August, and the following day travelled to Bangor in north Wales to attend a conference on Transcendental Meditation. That trip was curtailed after news broke of the death of their manager Brian Epstein. They returned to London that day.
A meditation session was held on 31 August, although the precise location is not known. The only photographer present, Philip Townsend, recalled it being at an address on Abbotsbury Road, W14, but the book The Beatles’ London says the likeliest address was 4 Albert Place, W8.
Attending the session were The Beatles, Jane Asher, Maureen Starkey, Mike McCartney, and various others. The primary purpose was to receive solace and continue the group’s meditation progress.
