On this day The Beatles were awarded their first silver disc, for sales of more than 250,000 copies of their single ‘Please Please Me’.
During the presentation ceremony the group gave a private performance to record company executives at EMI House, central London.
Also present was The Beatles’ producer George Martin, pictured here with the group.
