‘Gotta Get Up To Get Down’ is the opening song on Ringo Starr’s 20th solo studio album, 2019’s What’s My Name.

The title came about during a meal with Starr, co-writer Joe Walsh, and Klaus Voormann.

This was the first song we worked on on this record, and it turned out so great. It’s with Joe Walsh, and we were at dinner with Jim Keltner, and somehow that line came into the conversation: ‘Well, you gotta get up to get down.’ And we know it’s a title! Joe and I looked at each other, ‘Yes, that’s gonna be the title, and we’ll write a song about it.’
