I just got this fantastic mostly illustrated book from the good ol' Ohio library system and have already read through everything in a matter of hours. Paul Saltzman just happened to be on a spiritual quest of his own in the late 1960's, and he just happened to end up in the same place at the same time as the Beatles in India. His stint lasted as long as Ringo's did, but he was able to take many photographs which can largely be found here. There are many pictures that I hadn't seen before and there are a few stories that Paul (Saltzman) shared about various conversations with the boys and other experiences such as him being invited by George into his room to listen to him play the sitar. This just sheds some more light onto what is, in my opinion, the most fascinating period of the Beatles era.

I like how relaxed and happy George looks in those pictures. He seems less guarded I guess. If you wanted to, you could scan a few pages…
I'll try a little later, but unfortunately the book isn't supposed to leave the library so I'll have to sneak it out. The author talks about George several times in the book and how he was always smiling and just seemed to be at complete ease with himself. I think the pictures of John and Cynthia are the most interesting because you can just see the discomfort that existed between them. He actually had a conversation with John about love and John made the remark that love is tough, but “life always seems to give you a second chance.” Yep.

That website is where I found my Avatar.
“Paul Saltzman’s photos of all of us in India, in 1968, are absolutely beautiful. The photo of John, finger to his ear, is the best picture I’ve ever seen of John Lennon from the Beatles’ era—it speaks volumes.”
– Cynthia Lennon
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Yeah, the first time I saw that one in the book I thought, 'hey there's Zig.' If I ever get bored of the USS Chicka Ferdy I might have to change my avatar to the Paul equivalent of yours just because there are so many great pictures of him there.

Wonderful to see! The quality is great too- seems as if those pictures were taken a week ago.
Not only does George look at ease, but Ringo seems to be enjoying himself too despite the stomach problems he was experiencing. Then again, Ringo was the more jovial of the four in general.
Tongue, lose thy light. Moon, take thy flight… see ya, George!

Long time no see, welcome back!
The author talks about Ringo and how he was most at ease with who he was as a person, but I suppose that's to be expected because he was the only one not “searching” for anything.
