Although, it was kind of more “I wonder how they’re doing?” than “I wonder how they’re doing and I actively know that I’m testing to see if something unfortunate happens to them”, if y’know what I mean.

Offline I wasn’t sure whether to put this here or in Pet Peeves. I guess I’ll put it here because I don’t think anybody will agree with me.
I don’t like it when people consider song lyrics quotes. I used to have a teacher who had a poster that said this:
“Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind.” -Mick Jagger
No, that’s not a Mick Jagger quote. It’s a Rolling Stones lyric from Ruby Tuesday. It bugs me that half of every Wikiquote article on a musician is song lyrics. They aren’t quotes.

Surely it depends on the song, songwriter and context of the line quoted.
“Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans” is one of John’s that is used frequently but stands independently, well to me at least.

Song lyrics are quotes once they are repeated. They are from the mind of the author and are published both by audio and in written form.
I dont like when you go to a quote website and they’re all song lyrics either though.

I agree with LPDG in that if a lyric is repeated enough times, it can take on its own “life” so to speak and become a quote. Like the John lyric “Life is what happens…” pointed out above. It’s like a bit of that writing stuck with you and resonated, so you apply it to whatever you apply it to, so it to me does kind of become a “quote”. I do see what Necko’s saying, too, though.
I also agree that I hate visiting a musician’s quotations page and seeing nothing but snatches of random song lyrics.
