George Harrison recorded ‘Living In The Material World’, the title track of his fourth solo album, on 5 October 1972.
The song was recorded under the working title ‘The Material World’.
The basic track had Klaus Voormann’s bass guitar on track one, and Ringo Starr and Jim Keltner’s drums on two, three and four. Harrison’s electric guitar was on five, and his vocals on 10. Nicky Hopkins’ piano was on tracks seven and eight, and Gary Wright’s Hammond organ was on 11 and 12.
Takes 1-11 were marked as rehearsals, with various changes made to the arrangement. They then recorded the proper takes 1-51, recorded on five tape reels. Take 48 was marked the best and became the album master.
