Studio A-1, A&R Recording, New York City
Producer: Paul McCartney
Engineer: Dixon Van Winkle
Paul McCartney worked on the song ‘Smile Away’ on 29 January 1971, for the Ram album.
This was the final recording session for the song. McCartney added an electric guitar solo towards the end of the song, and three vocal tracks.
The first vocal track replaced a guide part recorded on 16 November 1970. The second and third were backing vocals by Paul and Linda McCartney, including the “Don’t know how to do that”/”Learning how to do that” refrains.
