The Beatles headlined a special edition of Summer Spin – the summer title of Thank Your Lucky Stars – dedicated to Mersey Beat groups on 23 June 1963. It was recorded at Alpha TV Studios in Birmingham.
The show was presented by Pete Murray, and The Beatles mimed to two songs at the show’s close: ‘From Me To You’ and ‘I Saw Her Standing There’.
It was broadcast the following Saturday, 29 June 1963, from 6.05-6.45pm, across most of the UK’s ITV network. However, the final 10 minutes of the show clashed with John Lennon’s appearance on the BBC’s Juke Box Jury.

The location for the Alpha TV Studios in Birmingham is incorrect. The Alpha Studios were located on Aston Road North Aston Birmingham and were at the time used by ABC TV until 1968. The map you are showing is where at one time the ATV Centre Studios were located and commenced broadcasting in 1969, until their demolition in 2010. ATV had taken over the broadcasting franchise from ABC for the Midlands region in 1968. ABC TV then became Thames Television.
From 1974 until the 1990’s what was left of the Alpha House building was the home of Birmingham’s first independent commercial radio station BRMB Radio.
