While listening to this song the other day, especially the lines
“People tell me that she’s only
Foolin’, I know she isn’t.”
a thought started jumping up and down in the back of brain trying to get my attention. The thought finally got my attention. McCartney did another song defending his woman and his choice of a woman.
It’s Not True
Some people say she’s a bad girl
Some people think she’s a fool
Some people tell me she’s no good
But I’m telling you, “It’s not true, it’s not true, it’s not true”They say that my girl’s a mad girl
No saying what she might do
Some people tell me she’s crazy
But I’m telling you, “It’s not true, it’s not true, it’s not true”
I wonder why the lyrics for It’s Not True aren’t on Paul’s website.

He made that distinction between love and money in Can’t Buy Me Love too, this song goes a bit further down the road and contrasts real/phoney.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

It’s also interesting to contrast the female psyche as portrayed by Paul in this and Can’t Buy Me Love and John with Girl and Norwegian Wood .

And might I add…
No one else will never see
How much faith you have in me
Only fools would disagree
That it’s so
Some people never know.
I have heard that Linda got a lot of flak for… um… I dunno, being Paul’s wife and stuff.

I see where “She’s A Woman ” contains a drug reference in the line, “Turn me on when I get lonely.” It was recorded not long after their Delmonico meeting with Dylan. I had never given it a thought. Maybe this is what happens when a song is on the first album you call your own and you’re seven. You’re just not tuned in to these things.

I know the Leary phrase and the allusions that the Beatles make to turning on, but I always hear the A Day In The Life and She’s A Woman lines as sex references. Its used much more in a sexual context nowadays.

She’s A Woman sounds more sexual to me than A Day In The Life . Probably because Paul sings this song in a kind of macho way, whilst John’s ADITL vocal is much more dreamy and stoned-sounding. Plus, y’know, it’s on Sgt Pepper . It’s all about context.
I think they meant the She’s A Woman line to have kind of a double meaning, though.

Yeah, “She’s A Woman ” is quite sleazy to me. In that awesome way that Paul could turn on sleazy/sexy like a tap.

I used to see this as a run-of-the-mill number but I have grown to love the very simple opening, the guitar strikes throughout and the feel of the song. The lyrics are crap (which John and Paul openly admittedly) but it doesn’t matter too much.
Strangely only takes 1, 3 and 4 are on YouTube, all of them used to be on there.

I look at the reference in terms of its surroundings – She’s A Woman is so obviously the thoughts of a randy young man, so obviously lustful, the reference can be nothing but sexual; but I find nothing in the dreamy, spaced out A Day In The Life that even hints at a relationship, let alone romance or lust, but is a journey though thoughts and reflections and a mind exploring its consciousness, which leads me in a different direction…

“She’s A Woman ” is one of the songs Paul selected for his “Lyrics” book. He talks about the term “woman” and about his bass playing (one of the first songs where his bass is super prominent). But lyrics-wise, I LOVE the clever rhyme:
She don’t give boys the eye
She will never make me jealous
Gives me all her time as well as
Lovin’, Don’t ask me why
