I remember my aunt, who was a casual Lennon fan in her youth, once called me “her John Lennon ” the first time she saw me wearing my glasses because they were of the round retro kind (and the only pair I knew I wanted) . Having mostly bad impressions of John at that time, I just answered I didn’t know what I should think about that. But when I look back at it, it’s actually the second best celebrity comparison I have gotten.

The photo has been flipped on the cover of Lennon Legend…
I’d never noticed that before but you can see the edges of another frame behind these so they must be clip ons.
PS When I was a kid in the seventies I had the standard NHS issue round glasses. I remember the curly metal bits that went around your ears really hurt. It didn’t feel cool to wear them at the time. I’ll have to find a pic if i can dig one out.

Offline I’ve always really liked John’s glasses he wore circa 1980 and I just found what looks like the official site of the company that made them…Hakusan – Mayfair. There’s also an account of how John came to buy them when in Tokyo in 1979.

I’m going to get some. These style glasses probably mean more to me than his famous Beatles era style glasses, given he wrote them near the end. It would make me feel closer to his spirt, if that makes sense.
