Am I the only one who thinks the Zombies are underrated? I love pretty much every song they’ve recorded, and Odessey and Oracle is one of my favourite albums.

I wish I knew their music better, honestly. I’m always hearing how they’re this really good underrated band, but I’ve never attempted to acquaint myself with their music.

Odyssey and Oracle is great. I love every song. I don’t think that they are underrated however, as there is a ton of hype surrounding their music. And for good reason.

Really? I’ve never heard any of that. You’re the first person I’ve known to actually know who they are, beyond She’s Not There or Time of the Season.

I saw this video a few months ago. They play Odyssey and Oracle live for the first time and they do a pretty decent job. Specially the singer.

I love their music. She’s not there is a brilliant track, very classy for a pop group in 1964.

Even deep tracks from th album like Brief Candles I have seen recognized based on the tune. Its also a highly rated album in rock magazines.

Yeah, “She’s Not There” is amazingly advanced for a 1964 pop single, with those jazzy touches.

O&A very much the absolute classic it’s supposed to be, almost like an English Beach Boys at times…and I’m gonna play it RIGHT NOW for my own research purposes – I love it when a thread inspires me to play a record I haven’t listened to in at least 15 years! (Incidentally, wikipedia tells me that the Mellotron used was Lennon’s, left behind at EMI in the summer of 67)

The only album of The Zombies i have Is Oddessey and Oracle and it is an amazing album! (Fun fact, The Zombies used some of the equipment that The Beatles used for Sgt. Pepper )

I’ve always loved “She’s Not There” and “Tell Her No” isn’t a bad track either.

Time of the season is my favourite. The misspelling of Odyssey they said was deliberate, but I don’t think they got away with it. Beautiful album cover art.R-2652520-1454618815-8299.jpeg.jpgImage Enlarger

I only just heard Odessey and Oracle for the first time last night and it is sublime. As mentioned every track is great. As well as the Beatles connection already discussed it was mostly recorded at Abbey Road on the same 4 track recording unit used for Sgt Pepper and engineered by Geoff Emerick.

I agree. Apparently Chris White the bass player wrote seven of the twelve songs and I think he perhaps wrote the best ones including this one.

How did I overlook this album? A Rose For Emily is like Bach+Beach Boys , remarkable singing on it. It had to have been influential at the time.

I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe.  This has been true for 2016 & 2017 Sig-Badge.png but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Odyessey and Oracle to me still sounds like something that could’ve came out recently even though it has just approached it’s 50th Anniversary

True, but I would imagine that there are still indie bands out there trying to sound like this album, or Pet Sounds or Sgt Pepper .

“Beechwood Park,” “Hung Up On A Dream,” and “Time Of The Season” have always been my favorites from Odessey.  Honorable mentions to “Friends Of Mine” and “Maybe After He’s Gone.”
