Recording, mixing: Baby’s Request, Cage, Getting Closer by Wings

Studio Two, Abbey Road Studios, London
Producers: Paul McCartney, Chris Thomas

Wings worked on three songs for the Back To The Egg album on 16 October 1978.

They began by playing a new song, the album closer ‘Baby’s Request’. It is likely that this day was devoted to rehearsing and arranging the song, which at this time was intended to be given to the Mills Brothers. When that fell through, Paul McCartney decided to release it as a Wings song instead.

They then worked on the unreleased ‘Cage’ – which had two discrete sections: ‘Emotional Moments’ and ‘He Didn’t Mean It’ – and ‘Getting Closer’, as well as several jams.

Stereo mixes of several of the recordings were made by McCartney and co-producer Chris Thomas towards the end of the session.
