John Lennon performed two shows for the BBC music show The Old Grey Whistle Test on 8 April 1975.
It was Lennon’s only UK television appearance to promote the Rock ‘N’ Roll album. He had been interviewed by host Bob Harris on 11 March, and the sequence was completed with performances of ‘Stand By Me’ and ‘Slippin’ And Slidin”.
The songs were performed in Studio B at New York’s Record Plant on this day. Lennon’s backing band was the studio’s in-house band, BOMF (Brothers Of Mother F*****s), who mimed to the album backing tracks: Joe Bassin and Joey Cooper on rhythm guitar, Angelo Arcuri on bass guitar, Jon Cobert on keyboards and piano, Bob Livingood on trumpet, Mark Rivera on saxophone, and Vinny Appice on drums.
The performances were couriered to the BBC on 15 April ahead of the broadcast three days later.
